What does BMI tell you?
Body mass index compares weight with height. It can be a quick general screening value, but it does not distinguish between muscle, body fat, bone structure or fat distribution.
| BMI | Category |
|---|---|
| below 18.5 | Underweight |
| 18.5–24.9 | Normal weight |
| 25.0–29.9 | Overweight |
| 30.0 and above | Obesity |
BMI is not a diagnosis. Individual professional assessment is important for medical concerns, eating disorders, pregnancy, high muscularity or health conditions.
